In 1870, Mr. José Deambrosi, Genoese, founded this family company and as from then Deambrosi Foods has worked with an 100% Uruguayan capital and nowadays lives its fourth generation. From the beginning it has been dealing with foodstuffs, salt being its main product. Within a conception of continuous improvement the company has been adding technological, infrastructure and diversification advances in the processing lines, being the final purpose that the whole productive process responds to the consumer's needs. Even though the local market used as a basis is small, its activities are being expanded towards other markets thus globalizing its sales. The company enjoys two advantages: low cost of sea transport and high quality of new products focused on specific consumer markets.
From the beginning, Deambrosi Foods has cooperated in the Public Health plans encouraged by the national and international agencies responsible for health. First, the company participated in the fight against endemic goiter through the addition of iodine to salt; thanks to this, after twenty years goiter has nearly disappeared in Uruguay. Since 1991 the company has been cooperating with the Plan of Oral Health encouraged by the PHO (Pan-American Health Organization), adding fluoride to salt to prevent children's tooth decay. These plans are a technological challenge that has led the company to a transformation in the whole productive process of refining, dosage, mixing and packing of salt for human consumption. Furthermore, Deambrosi Foods has carried out a plan of cooperation with the public schools in the whole country, contributing an important sum of money. For two years the company contributed money to Public Schools for the sale of the GOURMET® tomato sauce line. This money was used in improvements of school premises, and in the purchase of the essential materials for children's learning. This same campaign was also transferred to the PURA VIDA® products with a soy base.
Since Deambrosi Foods is convinced that quality defines it has invested in a TETRA PAK multipurpose aseptic processing plant, which places the company in the vanguard within the region. This system is based on the sterilization of products, and their subsequent aseptic packing assures their commercial sterility and their preserving for long periods without the need to add any kind of preservatives. The production capacity is of 6,000 packages per hour, assuring the food`s quality and flavor; this capacity can be adapted to a great variety of liquid and half-solid products: milk, wines, juices and tomato sauce, among others. For the making of products with a soy base, the company has a machine that packs DOYPACKS, which makes it possible to fill 1,800 packages per hour. This machine makes it possible to add pouring spouts so that the package will be handier at the time of consuming the product.
